Imefy has played a key role in providing dry converters for Smurfit Kappa’s first integrated corrugated plant in Africa. This innovative plant, strategically located in Rabat, Morocco, has recently been inaugurated with a significant investment of more than 35 million euros.

New Smurfit Kappa factory in Morocco

The new facility, covering 25,000 square meters, not only marks a milestone for Smurfit Kappa, but also strengthens the company’s presence in the African market. With the capacity to serve both the local market and wider regions across the continent, the plant will play a crucial role in the corrugated packaging supply chain.

Imefy, recognized for its expertise in power supply for major projects, has contributed by supplying dry transformers. Ensuring an efficient and reliable power supply for the continuous operation of the Smurfit Kappa plant.

The new factory, which will generate employment for approximately 400 people, will provide services to various Moroccan and multinational companies in sectors such as industry, agriculture, consumer goods, automotive, pharmaceuticals and ceramics. This will not only boost economic growth in the region, but also consolidates Morocco’s position as a major player in the packaging industry in Africa.

Pioneering approach to sustainability

A highlight of the new plant is its pioneering approach to sustainability. The facility has become the first integrated packaging plant in Morocco to be powered primarily by green energy. Equipped with 1,500 solar panels, the plant will cover 55% of its energy needs. It will contribute to a significant reduction of 900 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
